In every thriving community, there are people whose presence is quietly foundational—those who hold the place together, not just structurally but in spirit. At Encore Village, that person is Rick Paisley.
For 23 years, Rick has faithfully served as the Director of Plant Operations, leading the teams responsible for the systems, spaces, and daily details that keep Encore running. But to define Rick’s contributions by job description alone would miss the bigger picture. His impact extends far beyond work orders and equipment. It’s written into the fabric of the relationships he’s built and the care with which he treats every resident interaction.
Recently, a resident wrote a heartfelt letter thanking Rick for taking time out of his busy day to help her move chairs. A small gesture to some—but a significant moment of kindness and attention to her. In appreciation, Encore Village surprised Rick with Opening Day tickets to see the Chicago Cubs. It was a simple but meaningful thank-you for a man who gives so much.
When I sat down with Rick, his words painted a picture of someone who sees every task—big or small—as an opportunity to serve.
“Working at Encore Village presents me with the opportunity to serve,” he said. “Even what might be considered a small task has value to the person requesting it.”
Rick’s sense of connection is not just professional; it’s deeply personal. He treasures moments that may seem simple—sharing a laugh with a resident, making someone smile, hearing someone say, “I wish I had moved here sooner.” These moments, he says, are the most rewarding of all.
Rick’s leadership in Plant Operations goes far beyond systems and schedules. He oversees housekeeping, laundry, maintenance, and security/concierge with the kind of care and consistency that makes residents feel truly at home. His approach is built on purpose, pride, and a genuine connection to the people he serves.
“Residents give meaning to my work life,” he reflected. “I look forward to coming to work each day because of the relationships I get to build.”
It’s a philosophy that shapes everything Rick does—from responding to urgent repairs with calm competence to remembering a resident’s favorite chair setup for an afternoon event. At Encore, he’s not just fixing things—he’s building trust.
Before joining Encore Village, Rick worked in a hospital, where interactions with patients were brief and often fleeting. Here, he’s found something deeper: “Residents are already home. Over time, acquaintances become friends. That’s a true privilege.”
Rick leads by example, and his team follows suit. “I’ve admired many Associates, watching them serve with obvious and genuine compassion—it makes me want to be more like them.”
Still, it’s Rick who inspires others every day. His humility, dedication, and kindness create a culture where service isn’t a task—it’s a shared value.
“I never have to go home wondering if my work matters to anyone,” he said, smiling.
Encore Village is more than a place to live—it’s a place where life continues to happen. And much of that life is supported by the invisible but invaluable work Rick does every single day.
Thank you, Rick, for all that you do—for fixing what’s broken, lifting what’s heavy, and showing what it means to lead with heart.
You are Encore Village.
